Scientific research station in Nunavut

– Université Laval, in collaboration with the Qikiqtani Inuit Association, has been building a new research station in Qikiqtarjuaq. This facility aims to support year-round scientific research focusing on environmental studies and Arctic marine life. Potable water supply and wastewater evacuation are provided by tanker trucks to the facility. To reduce costs associated with water services and increase the research station’s autonomy, engineers have requested a system to recycle greywater from showers and reuse it for flushing toilets and cleaning purposes. The system had to be very reliable, easy to operate, and capable of handling prolonged on/off periods.
